Volunteers

Volunteers takes someone from "we should ask them" to serving on a team: recruiting, onboarding, training, placing them in a position and keeping them in the loop with posts and events in the Serve app.

Words you'll see

Positions are organized up to four levels deep:

  • Service: a gathering you staff, like "Sunday 9am" or "Wednesday Night".
  • Area: a part of the service you staff on its own, like Check In, Worship or Small Groups.
  • Group: a folder for positions that belong together, like one grade or one room. Groups can have subgroups.
  • Position: one job someone fills, like "Small Group Leader". You set how many you need.

And for people:

  • Volunteer: someone serving in a ministry, with a status of Candidate, Onboarding, Active, Inactive or Archived.
  • Placement: a volunteer sitting in a spot on the Positions board.
  • Prospect: someone on the Recruiting board you'd like to ask.
  • Workflow: your ministry's onboarding checklist. Each person going through it has their own copy with steps to finish.

Set up Volunteers

  1. Build your positions, or start from a template.
  2. Add your current volunteers, or import them from CCB.
  3. Place them in positions.
  4. Build an onboarding workflow for new volunteers.
  5. Roll out the Serve app.

Does Volunteers email people?

Only in two cases: the Serve app invite, and phone notifications for posts and events. Onboarding emails are drafts your team copies and sends. Adding, placing, recruiting and training people doesn't send them anything.
